USED
TO THINK
For
this week's editorial I've decided to run a poem that was written toward
the end of my days as a high school teacher. I think it sums up what the
unlearning process is all about. I know the verses could go on and on,
as the lies we've been told since our birth go on and on. Ultimately,
it comes down to your willingness to see the truth of things. May these
words give you food for thought.
Used
to think the Earth was solid
and all the creatures here were from it.
But now I can't decide.
Some say it might be hollow inside.
And the truth that they're trying to hide
might reveal earth as just a stop on a longer human ride.
Don't let the lies divide.
Be of one mind.
The
SCIENTISTS know exactly what they are lyin' about.
Used
to think that milk did a body good
but that's not true for brothers in the 'hood
and the rest of us who've misunderstood
that those who think they're doin' good
are pawns for a Secret Brood!
The
EXPERTS know exactly what they are lyin' about.
Used
to think that cancer was caused by the Marlboro Man.
But now I think its Uncle Sam,
the man with the plan
whose freedom is a scam
and to whom your lives don't mean a damn.
The
POLITICIANS know exactly what they are lyin' about.
Used
to think that History
was the glorious story of our country.
But now I see the disparity
of how the rich run the world with clarity
while the rest of us beg for their charity.
The
TEACHERS know exactly what they are lyin' about.
Used
to think that God was a "he"
who sat on his throne guiding destiny.
Then I heard that God was a "she"
who loved like a mother unconditionally.
Not bad, I say, but both aren't true.
This division keeps separatin' me and you.
The
PRIESTS know exactly what they are lyin' about.
"What's
the point?" you say.
"Why even begin?"
'Cause it's time for us to wake up and go within
and finally see that God is a SHIM.
Anything less is a SHAM.
I
AM GOD SHIMSELF!
