A regular reader of this website recently sent me this email:

I'm really starting to think that masturbation --which is pushed to being a natural and healthy exercise--, is negatively affecting humans spiritually. I believe some sort of spiritual energy is being released through ejaculation, based on my own "sessions" (and they are many) and the more one abstains the better and more "spiritually ready/capable" (for lack of better terminology) he or she is.

Why do I say this? Well I recall reading some snippets regarding Shamans refraining from masturbation to build up their spiritual energy. After months or a year (or so) the Shaman would reach his spiritual peak. I don't recall what they use this energy for, maybe talking to nature or seeing visions? The fact of the matter in my case though is that I don't have prophetic dreams when I masturbate every day or very good dreams in general. The dreams aren't as vivid either. Love dreams are replaced by sexual dreams, as well. But when I abstain, I'll have very vivid and detailed apocalyptic dreams sometimes, or I'll have predictions of the upcoming day which are accurate and come true. I may also be more motivated, and possibly more creative.

Before I take any definitive stance on this issue, it is significant to address just how important this question really is. Sex, like money, is an expression of humanity's potential for creative power. Sex, like money, is also an issue that many people feel a tremendous emotional charge around, mostly in the forms of guilt and shame if there is too much of it and intense cravings of desire if there is a lack of it. Living in a world where sexual expression is severely restricted helps to create a climate of secrecy around the issue. It is no surprise then, that we can wonder if it is truly connected to the conspiracy for power designing events around the globe, which is also shrouded in secrecy.

The answer to this question then is most definitely yes. Sexual energy plays a very important part in the suppression of human consciousness. But then again, so do a lot of things. If we take a step back, we can see that it is not the "thing" or "action" itself that is suppressive, but the consciousness behind the "thing" or "action" that does the suppressing. Once you raise your awareness to a certain level of power, actions that appear similar on the surface can have decidedly different results to one's destiny. The difference lies in the intent.

I will digress just a bit here and note that there are some spiritual teachings that believe that all sexual acts are the root cause, the "original sin", of all human suffering and strongly advocate celibacy as the road to liberation. Perhaps that is a way to the bliss state we all in our hearts desire, and you should follow your heart if that path calls strongly to you. But from an unlearning point of view, I'd like to think that the Kosmos is open to multiple "solutions" as much as it is open to multiple orgasms.

If you will refer back to my earlier editorial, "Sex Magic", you will read there that the occult powers of this world use sex to energize their rituals and enhance their manifestations. This effect is also extracted from us by the corporate wizards, who use sex to sell everything under the stars. We are conscious that they are doing so in most cases, and don't seem to mind the titillation to which we are constantly subjected. This is largely because the run of humans is not aware of how the sexual power works, or what it is ultimately being used for.

As one unlearns more and more, it becomes clear that we are not our bodies, not our personalities, not all of our thoughts nor all of our "minds". We are the "Fifth Element" or "Fifth Sense" animating the mixture of the lower Four Elements and Senses. We come to remember ourselves as timeless, immortal beings, interacting with nature for a myriad of purposes, all of which are the expression of our thinking. This thinking is creating our destiny, whether we realize it or not.

When we masturbate, we are drawing from our "light essence" and sending it out into nature as very powerful creative thoughts. These thoughts will ultimately exteriorize as experienced reality, whether in our lifetime or subsequent/simultaneous ones. Therefore, whoever can strongly influence the sexual desire to a specific end, the more skillfully one or several people can craft the universe of their imaginings. When one ponders this principle, it becomes apparent why so much of our cultural sexual energies are tied up with violence. Someone(s) or Something(s) are getting "their rocks off" on the endlessly repeating, poorly-nutritional quality of human physical expression that we have witnessed for the last few millennia.

Frequent masturbation can and does interfere with the creative process, if the sole desire is for the pleasurable release it brings. Nature is literally sucking the life force from you to use for its own ends, for the human being is the focused (or blurred) lens through which intelligent light operates and nature matter is transformed. A part of the unlearning process, and therefore a component to human empowerment, is learning to focus and channel the sexual energies and bring them into balance.

I will claim no position of mastery in this realm myself, though I am aware that this is the road we all must eventually travel. Do not despair too much that your progress is slow, nor care too little if you're not making progress at all. The weariness of existence at this time is only the downward swing from a previous and long-forgotten highpoint in the human drama. We are heading that way again, towards the nobler expressions of our sex, but who is to say that existence will fare any better, spiritually, than the present one?

Masturbation is an expression of our desire for creation and created things. No matter how noble the aspiration, as long as the focus remains on the physical world, we will fall far short of knowing and achieving our full potential as timeless selves in the realm where all manifestation is born.

This is why shamans and other spiritual traditions recommend that human seed not be spilled for certain lengths of time, nor that time be spent pursuing sexual release in thought or deed. Keeping your seed (possessed in both genders) allows it to grow in power, which has the long term effect of enabling you to more clearly contact your infinite nature. This in turn will give a tremendous boost to the quality of your thinking and therefore the experience of your reality.

Eventually, the desire to know your own self will supersede the desire to experience creation. When that happens, you begin to recollect yourself and dissolve the illusions one by one.

Unlearners are most definitely on this road already. But this is no cause for being smug. All of us have wallowed in our illusions for longer than we might care to remember. Those who choose to remain at the mercy of these illusions will grow weary of them in time as well. It will serve us all if we meet our destinies with responsible awareness, and a little cheer couldn't hurt either!

So whether our fantasies and dreams are apocalyptic or sensually trivial, the important thing is to own them all as we thrust to and fro between them. While I must admit my desire for a pleasurable, kind and sensual civilization on earth is strong, my desire for the truth is stronger. Turn your sexual energies toward that end, and see if we can't all obtain the ultimate release, which is the exquisite feeling, thinking and knowing of being conscious of and as Who You Really Are!
